All too often in the hustle and bustle of our fast paced world, we push ourselves to just squeezing one more minute out of our 24 hour day!!
If we had just one more minute to stop by the grocery store and pick up that birthday card, one more minute to drive by and see a friend, one more minute to finish up a project, one more minute to.... well, you get the picture.
Over time, that one more minute that we squeeze out of our day adds up to a whole lot of lost sleep. Sleep deprivation, as we all know, is linked to multiple health issues, such as high blood pressure, weakened immune systems, obesity, stress and so many more concerns. If we were as strict with our bedtimes as we were with trying to fit one more minute into each day, our bodies would be running much healthier, our minds clearer, not to mention how our overall mood and outlook on life would improve.
Our technology devices are often to blame for our willingness to skip out on enough sleep while we watch just one more episode on Netflix, or scroll Facebook just one more time. The result, although not always immediate, takes it's toll on our longevity. We cannot continuously deny our body the time it needs for cellular repair, REM sleep, a shutting down and rejuvenating period.
There are times we just simply cannot shut off from our day at work or our family or financial struggles. We try, but end up tossing and turning, letting the events of whatever might be play over and over in our minds when we should be doing nothing more than relaxing.
Weighted blankets have proven an effective tool in my battle to quiet my racing thoughts. They are designed to help calm the body, comfort the mind and relax our all too often restless spirits, allowing us to fall into a deep and peaceful sleep without a medication that can cause an entirely new set of health problems. A peace of mind all in itself. If you or a loved one struggle with getting a full night's sleep a weighted blanket may be the simple solution to overall better health. Who knows, it may even give you just one more minute in the morning after a wonderful night of slumber, like it did me.
